DJ Premier’s New Signee Releases New Single & Intimate Live Performance Video
You Know The 6 God & The Trap God—Now Get Familiar With The “Bass God”
Upon moving to NY from Boston, Brady Watt was tapped by Dame Dash as his musical director and thereafter contributed to a string of celebrated releases including Curren$y’s Pilot Talk 1 & II, 24 Hour Karate School, and Murs’ Love & Rockets; and playing alongside the likes of Mos Def and Jay Electronica.
His nickname “Bassgod” was bestowed upon him after many studio and live sessions and he is generally regarded as one of the industry’s a preeminent bassist’s; validated by the fact that he is most streamed bass player alive. While he may have been bestowed a holy moniker, Brady plays almost any instrument under the sun and also writes, produces and composes all of his own solo material. That versatility will be on full display when he releases his forthcoming sophomore album, To Get Back Home, on DJ Premier’s TTT Label in 2018. “The day I met Brady, he came to play Bass at my studio for a client which was formerly the legendary D&D studio. As soon as he walked in, he looked like the human version of his Bass guitar” DJ Premier commented to Uproxx. “I am a Bass player, so I waited until after the session was rolling to take a listen to how he plays. As soon as I was approached about putting a band together I knew Brady was the first person to call. His key to success was already issued at the check-in desk from day one.”
2017 was a stellar year for Brady Watt. He traveled the world with DJ Premier as a member of his The Badder Band and joined Preem for a monumental NPR Tiny Desk Performance (the first such ever performance by a DJ), announced his signing to Premier’s TTT (To The Top) imprint and premiered new music with XXL, Mass Appeal and Okayplayer. Brady’s diversity was also on display, as he worked with Jay Electronica, G-Eazy, 2 Chainz, Joey Bada$$, Rick Ross and Curren$y, produced two tracks for Talib Kweli & Styles P Seven EP & worked on eight tracks on Statik Selektah’s (including appearing on the lead-single, “Man Of The Hour,” featuring 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifia) recently released 8 album.
The arrow for Brady Watt’s 2018 is already pointing up. Just this week he joined Talib Kweli and BJ The Chicago Kid for a performance of Kweli’s "The One I Love" on the Stephen Colbert show in support of his Radio Silence album and recently started headlining gigs at the legendary Blue Note in NYC. Starting in February, Brady will be in LA gigging, recording and performing at venues such as LA’s famed Low End Theory club, which has been a launch pad for artists such as Daddy Kev, Flying Lotus and many others and he will also be featured on an upcoming track from DJ Premier & Royce 5’9”’s PRhyme 2 album which will be released in March.
Today, Brady Watt premieres his new single, “Journey’s Lead By Intuition” via an exclusive premiere with Uproxx. “Most of my songs/beats start with an idea generated by improvisation, sometimes just me sometimes others involved. This track was exactly like that, intuitively building around it. Making music for me has very little to do with rules or gear or anything; it has to do with capturing moments. That authenticity remains in the composition for life” Brady stated to Uproxx. “What "Journeys Led By Intuition" means to me is just trusting in the process. When it comes to making decisions in life, music, whatever - our intuition is all we got. The answers lie within, not in others.”
