Torii Wolf & DJ Premier Create A New Original Track for Amazon Music’s ‘Love Me, Love Me Not’ Valentine’s Day Playlist
Complex Premiere

In the fall of 2017, Torii Wolf released her wildly creative debut album Flow Riiot; a debut she crafted alongside the luminary DJ Premier and in conjunction with Preem’s TTT label imprint. Flow Riiot also included additional production from araabMUZIK, Mike Zombie, King Of Chill and a special guest appearance from Macklemore (“Free”).

Thanks to her sultry voice, range and musicality, Torii has enjoyed a precipitous rise. Leading up to her solo-debut, Torii premiered music with esteemed tastemaker outlets Pitchfork, Complex, Pigeons & Planes, Billboard, Genius, Highsnobiety, Mass Appeal, Vibe & Okayplayer and was tapped for Vevo’s “dscvr” series (past alumni include Sam Smith, Alessia Cara, Tove Lo, Hozier & DNCE).

With Valentine’s Day rapidly approaching, Torii and DJ Premier further display their undeniable chemistry with a new and exclusive track, “Silent Crow,” which they created specifically for Amazon Music’s Valentine’s Day themed Love Me & Love Me Not Playlists (which also features Original Songs and Covers by artists such as Dan Auerbach, Of Montreal, Alexi Murdoch, John Prine and Jay Som among others).

“’Silent Crow’ has a very deep and haunting feel for me,” Wolf tells Complex. “The feeling of being so in love, but feeling the death of the relationship on his way to take you from the home you’ve built. Sometimes true love isn’t enough to live on. Special ingrediants in the recipe can be hard to measure. Doesn’t always turn out the way you wanted it to taste. That’s not always a bad thing either.”

Speaking on the pair’s special chemistry, Premier added “As soon as the concept was presented to us, I knew that Torii could perfectly write to whatever I brought musically. The first thing for me was to bring a funky drum break to play all live sounds. When I played the swooping hawk type sound, Torii said that it immediately reminded her of crows; but in a dark relationship form. That’s when I decided to switch the groove to a love segment with my pianos so that it had the ‘love me, love me not’ theme. She did exactly what I was hoping for vocally to make it all come together. It is already one of my favorite songs ever.”
