Thing’s Aint The Same Anymore…
NYC’s bass gawd, Brady Watt, has been shelling out soulful sonic goodies for years now….
His music career started around age 14, playing bass in various groups in the New England Punk Scene. But way before this he was a hip-hop head, growing up on Wu-Tang, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, etc. His musicality evolved at a very fast rate under the tutelage of a few mentors and as he discovered and assimilated new styles such as; world music, funk, fusion etc. Upon moving to Brooklyn, Brady really began mastering his craft, first by performing with a who’s who list of legendary musicians and artists in the city and then around the world. Soon after he became one of the most sought after session bass players and performers.
While carving his name into the scene as an A-List bass player, Brady was also soaking up game from all the producers he was working with. With a keen ear, skills as a multi-instrumentalist (Bass, Keys, Drum, Guitar) and a taste for drum production and soundscaping those inclinations made the move a natural one.
While Brady spends the majority of his time on the road performing (he is a member of Talib Kweli’s band and also a vital member of DJ Premier’s live band ‘The Badder’) and in studio sessions, he released his debut album, Lifetronics, which featured appearances from Talib Kweli, SMozke DZA & Melanie Fiona in February of 2015.
As a producer and/or studio musician Brady has worked with Talib Kweli, DJ Premier, Mos Def, Melanie Fiona, Roy Ayers, Action Bronson, Ryan Leslie, Gary Clark Jr., Black Thought, Jay Electronica, Ski Beatz, Curren$y, Ro James, Bun B, Snoop Dogg, Big KRIT, Smoke DZA, Jay Electronica, Bilal, Olamide Faison, RZA, and the list goes on.
Currently, Brady Watt is working on his follow up full-length album which will be released in early 2017. Today, he shared a new remix of Chance The Rapper’s “Same Drugs” in an exclusive premiere with Okayplayer.
